With the deepening economic slowdown affecting more people’s ability to meet their food, utility, housing and transportation needs, The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced the creation of a special grant fund to meet those needs.

In the weeks before, during and after World AIDS Day Dec. 1, the southwestern Pennsylvania AIDS Planning Coalition along with other organizations such as the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force held a series of events to educate people about the disease of HIV/AIDS and inspire them to take action to help those living with the disease. While some events addressed concerns with HIV/AIDS care in the region, others delighted guests with song and dance.

TIME TO SAY YES—Flanked by Dwelling House President John Haines and Steeler Hall of Famer Franco Harris, Tim Stevens, Black Political Empowerment Project chair, urges everyone to pledge a donation to the bank as a means of showing potential large investors how well the community supports the institution.


When 50 or so folks arrived at the Hill House Association for a meeting to support the troubled Dwelling House Savings and Loan, many expected an “old time civil rights moment” where bank president John Haines would lead them on a march to deposit new funds, and show investors Dwelling House was a good bet.
