Women's History Month

Women's History Month in the United States began in 1978, expanding Women's History Week by the Education Task Force in Sonoma County, California. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month and declared March as the month of celebrating the contributions of women in our history. The Pittsburgh Courier is honoring Black womens' role in Women's History Month on our site.
